The latest offering from Video Arena VHS is a special release of the elusive work of Dylan Jones. Dylan's animation and illustration work is defined by a grotesque body-quality, a frustrating sense of humor, like listening too hard to a distorted radio signal and wondering if you weren't meant to hear what you just heard. Most of the animations in this program are in the cut-out style, which Jones uses to unsettling effect through not-quite-natural manipulations of the tongues, limbs and orifices of his signature figures. These characters resemble creepy early-mid 20th Century kitsch dolls -- think Hummel figurines and Raggedy Anns with an added dose of mutant sexuality, and you're getting close to it.
