About the event
Personal Cinema: Varoujan Froundjian Beyond Focus
On Saturday April 13, Millennium Film Workshop brings you the latest installment in our long-running Personal Cinema series, celebrating the work of individuals or collectives of non-commercial film and video artists. We are honoring the work of Armenian-born Connecticut-based Animator, filmmaker, and lecturer Varoujan Froundjian, who will be presenting 4 of his idiosyncratic works and a discussion about his ideas and methods.
Finding images in the sidewalk, in nature, or crafting them whole cloth through digital drawings which are incorporated into film through an idiosyncratic animation style, Varoujan seeks hidden emotions. Key to many of his works are the renderings of faces of people of all kinds, woven together with music, color, abstraction and repetition. These faces can hide or sometimes reveal inner turmoil, loneliness, and a desire for human connection, frustrated by technology and society’s demands. Varoujan is seeking a technological means to restore the lost connections he observes.
