About the event

Millennium Film Workshop is proud to present How To Touch a Memory, a collection of works by Argentine illustrator, animator and artist Pepita Sandwich

Opening March 2nd, the Millennium Gallery will be home to an array of multimedia visual works, textiles, poems, performances, videos and animations that present possible approaches to the question at the heart of this show’s poetic text composed by Malén Denis: What is a memory, Pepita?

During her two week residency at Millennium, Pepita will be the subject of a Personal Cinema screening of her moving image work, along with readings on Saturday March 9, and will host a Visual Poetry Workshop together with Malén Denis on Sunday March 10, where participants will construct visual poems using stop-motion techniques. Finally, join us on Friday March 15th in the early evening for a closing night reception.

How to Touch A Memory, Malén Denis:

There's an infinite space behind the eyes where emotional landscapes intertwine. Gardens & galaxies. A holographic bridge that brings the past into the present.

What is a memory, Pepita?

a star passing through the body at the speed of light

a spell

I think to myself – if I could touch a memory… it would be glittering foam, the most decadent mousse, a cloud. If I could touch a memory, it would be the iridescent tail of a mermaid. Shiny and translucent jelly, glow-in-the-dark slime. Fizzy, effervescent, popping candy that blows up in your palate, sparkles.

An intimate movie edited with the moves of spinning teacups, somewhere that might have never existed. A VHS rented way too many times. A sense of home.

warmth

Can we choose what we remember? Can we train ourselves to choose what we remember? Pepita’s idea of touching a memory is revolutionary because instead of going back there, her proposal is to bring those impossible particles here.

Goosebumps – did you just remember your first kiss? I could feel it.

When is a memory made? Not in the past or the present. A paradox.

If we could explore the hidden geography inside of a tear, we would discover new memories ready to be triggered.

That’s what Pepita does; she wants to help you, give you a hand to bring back your hidden treasures from the lost cities inside of you. She wants to make sure that you cherish your present so much that your future can only be brilliant and wonderful, full of gems to remember. Pepitas de oro.

Present, no wonder why it means ‘gift,’ and it never matters what came first.

We cordially invite you to never forget

you are here.

We want you to remember

you are here.
