About the event
For the latest installment in our long-running Personal Cinema series, Millennium Film Workshop is proud to present the New York debut of Joy Young's experimental sci-fi feature film, "O"
The film “O” is about a "Cine-woman” made of analogue film, finds salvage for herself in a digital virus storm. She needs to solve a math calculus equation by finding seven short film fragments from Machine “O (circle/root/meta)”’s prompts, to save herself, through exploring her own family, love, sexuality, and home, discussing themes like LGBT, women, culture and environment etc. in a semi-biography.
A love letter to the analogue film cinema and a medicine to cure humans amid a turbulent Covid era, “O” aims to heal the audience while innovating the film medium. It tries to reinvent a new directing method of using 3D VR to shoot for 2D big screen with a self designed system of shot usage from 360 degrees. It combines maths calculus, biochemistry and cubism…
