SCREENING/READING
Thurs. Aug 21 at 7:30 pm - Lives on Fire
River Selby will be reading from their new memoir “Hotshot: A Life on Fire” which navigates the personal and environmental dangers of wildland firefighting through a lens of intersectionality. Extremely personal memoir is interwoven with the damage of colonization – recognizing wounds of personal and national pasts and the effort that is needed to grow new futures.
George Saunders describes the book as “A beautiful reflection on justice, the environment, the self, and much more.”
The short films in the program have been curated by Kati Rehbeck around themes reflected in River’s book, broadly related to “fire” but also investigating how we make sense of damage while finding what keeps us burning or calms our flames.
