Female, Fun & Friction: Film by Babeth Mondini VanLoo

FEMALE, FUN & FRICTION

The 1970s Underground Films of Babeth Mondini VanLoo

Babeth Mondini VanLoo presents four experimental films made during the 1970s, when she lived and worked between New York, San Francisco, and Europe.

Moving through underground film, performance, punk, conceptual art, politics, and the body, Babeth's films offer an intimate female perspective from inside the counterculture of the period. Chance, collision, humor, asynchronous sound, and unexpected encounters become part of the filmmaking process.

BERLIN WALL & SEX PISTOLS — 1978, 16mm, 14 min.

Footage of the Berlin Wall collides with the Sex Pistols’ final concert at San Francisco’s Winterland, bringing punk’s confrontational energy into dialogue with Cold War division and postwar political memory.
