About the event

For the latest installment in our long-running Personal Cinema Series, on Friday. May 8, 2026, Millennium Film Workshop will be presenting Brooklyn Roses, a film memoir by Christine Noschese.

Brooklyn Roses is a film diary and feminist statement from Brooklyn native, Christine Noschese. Christine has spent much of her life telling the stories of the working class women around her, in films like Metropolitan Avenue (which has been screened internationally and broadcast in syndication on PBS) and as co-founder of the National Congress of Neighborhood Women. In Brooklyn Roses, she turns the camera on herself.

Filmed across three decades and using a blend of narrative fiction and documentary, Christine tells the story of her relationship with her mother, Connie. The narrative segments show Connie’s struggles as a woman in the ‘50s and ‘60s who did not fit the mold that society had cast for her. It was filmed in Christine’s actual childhood…
