About the event
A collection of films made by filmmakers in the springtime of their careers. The youngest filmmaker in the program was 7 years old when they made their claymation piece; another film's characters are all played by Barbie dolls. Many filmmakers have gotten disillusioned with the industry, the competitiveness, the staleness and pretension---but what were the things that made us fall in love with cinema in the first place? Let's go back to a time when we were first falling in love with movie-making, a time of exploration and risk taking. The goal of this program is to celebrate that time when we were discovering how to create film with the purest of intentions; just to make something. Maybe if we see how genius our juvenile minds were capable of being, we can be more forgiving to our current ones. The films are some of the first ones made by filmmakers who are adults now, including Sadie Benning, William Banks, Dazhi Huang, Yuki Soga, and more.
This program was curated by Victoria Guillem for the Millennium Film Workshop.
