About the event
This showcase features two short films that celebrate the current queer cinema landscape, as well as look to the future of the genre.“New Queer Noir” is a celebration of the explosive collision of noir and queer cinema. Draped in mystery but soaked in glitter, this evening takes the neo-noir genre into full neon-noir.
On The Floor (2020) Andro Astro, a newly successful, queer hip-hop artist, descends into a jumbled, drug-fueled reality that fuses together the past, present and future. Taking a hiatus from the pressures of fame and public life, Andro self-isolates in a treehouse within a mysterious bamboo forest, where three visitors will soon guide Andro toward a new vision of identity. Driven by pulsating music and bold, non-linear storytelling, the 16-minute short film On The Floor is a queer, psychedelic fever dream, exploring the struggle to find a sense of self in a fractured, constantly-in-flux world.
Escape from Canal Street:
“In exchange for clues about their girlfriends disappearance, androgynous bad-boy Dell is enlisted by an icy drag queen on the path of revenge to rob a notorious downtown sugar daddy in this glitter-noir short film.”--
